The die has been cast. The Americans have spoken, decided. Obama leads, McCain concedes defeat.
I don't usually blog about anything political but an exception to the norm is in order to commemorate this event which will surely go down the pages of American history. I sure hope its pages will mostly contain Obama's good governance, and the beneficial changes he's brought upon his country and with that, the rest of the world.
The first African-American US President. Wow. We've only seen it in movies before and now it's become reality. Surely, this changes a lot. Everybody seems to be willing to get out of the norm, desperate for a nice change to happen. Now, I don't mean that Obama's success is a desperate move on the part of the Americans. But it definitely means something good, if not great. It's no secret that racism is one of the issues the whole of the United States (and the rest of the world) cannot seem to put an end to. With an African-American leading them, I think it somehow means that the whites are now acknowledging the blacks if they can truly lead them to a greater and more prosperous tomorrow.
Obama's words are promising and from the point of view of regular voters, sincere. The sincerity in his words has captured not only the hearts and trust of his fellow Americans, but also that of other countries. I haven't lived long enough but in my entire 22 years of lifetime, I think this is a first. The whole world is suddenly very much aware of the US Elections, not that they are not before, but the intensity of their involvement can be felt. The Filipinos living in the US and those here are torn between the two candidates. Spain had dedicated an entire 2,000 acres of land just to create the biggest sand image of Obama. Residents of Obama, Japan root for Obama for President (now, I don't know if they like him because of his plans for change or because his name's the same as their place). The Internet has its fair share of campaigns, advertisements, and websites of the two candidates. And I'm blogging about it when I am not even updated with what's happening in my own country! His being elected as the 44th US President has brought me to feel fear, hopeful, and nervous all at the same time. And I know I'm not alone in feeling that. I'm sure Obama is as well, considering he takes over the lead at the precise moment the US and the world are suffering major economy and financial crisis. And let's not forget that there's still the issue of war. Good luck to you Obama! Do your best.
With US one of the countries leading the world's economy, Obama has become the President of the World. For a moment, people were fearful that Obama might just end up like Al Gore, who was at the time of his candidacy for president, a favorite of the Americans, but lost to George Bush. But then again, Al Gore's losing is not a lost cause for he served an equally challenging and important role - open us to the truth of our nature's health due to the effects of Global Warming.
Contradicting isn't? A Black President now resides in the White House. There is finally balance in nature. Change has been reborn and has now arrived - he is Barack Obama.
